Waiting

Somewhere out there, there is a swarm, a scraggle, a torment of publishers on whom's desk / in whom's inbox lies my manuscript. They have 9 days remaining (8 in England, which is where they are, but shhhh) in which to read and respond to the submission. Two have already responded (and have responded No), leaving Ten.

Ten scary publishers sat upon a wall...

I try to forget, but my heart leaps every time my email pings. And I thought I'd escaped that feeling when I finally got a job.

Pah.

Watch this space - I may well be crying in it 9 days from now.

  2. Hi Hannah,

I have been meaning to write to you for a short while now but now that you have got a new job I really wanted to write and congratulate you on that and also say Good Luck with the publishers - fingers crossed for a favourable outcome there!

The reason I wanted to write is that I have been following your blog since my arrival in Cambridge Mass. a couple of months ago with great interest and understanding. This is because it mirrors both my situation and sentiments expressed in emails and Skype conversations with friends and family so perfectly, and so I can laugh or smile ruefully at the same things as you!

A lady my Mum now works with in London and who used to work on your team I believe at TimeBank told my Mum about your blog when she heard about mine and my husband's story and suggested I read it. I met my American husband in Rome in December 2006 and then spent the next 5 years conducting a complicated, long-distance relationship and eventually got married in the UK and then had to wait 16 months for my Green Card to be granted to enter the States! Thankfully I am here now and all is well and I am enjoying married life and exploring opportunities in Mass. I have really been enjoying the blog and it is reassuring to know that it is not only me that finds all of the changes hard!

I know it is perhaps a little strange to meet someone on a blog but I hope that you might be able to email me back and one day we could perhaps go for a cup of tea together! As I am a tea fan too! As you said, it is difficult to get started in a new place and make friends, especially when you are foreign and British English is essentially another language! I have enabled further comments to be sent to my email address hannah.philip@googlemail.com if you would be keen some time. I live near Central Square T but can't yet drive here unlike you!! Well done on that too!

    Best wishes,

    Hannah
